Description
Written for Erik Lundquist, Wistful Thinking is a work tailored to the intermediate and amateur level euphonium player. Many euphonium solos written today are well out of reach of early college players and most of the adult enthusiasts while Wistful Thinking fits perfectly into their skill level. The range is contained – starting at “low F” and goes up to “high B-flat” and the speed of notes is limited for accessibility.
The music itself explores a main melody that undergoes a number of different rhythmic and pitch level adjustments throughout the piece. It is soulful with grand gestures (again, within technical limitations) and the character is mostly lyrical.
